Bonusses
Of course you'd like to collect all the Bonusses that you possibly can.
They really don't appear randomly, there's a system to it, designed to
reward good knights.
Every time you destroy an enemy, a bonus is generated some time later.
But if you pick this bonus up, another one appears. And if you collect
that one, one more appears! And then it ends. Any enemy can yield at most
three bonus crystals this way, but only if you collect them! If you don't
pick up the bonusses, every enemy creates exactly one bonus crystal.
There's also a set order in which types of bonus appear. It starts out
with just low-value bonusses, but then the sequence starts to contain
higher-value bonusses, ending with the Sigma-Cup, which is the
best bonus you can get. It looks like a blue cup with a Greek Sigma-character
on it (obviously?) Once this one has been, the sequence begins again.
This forces the player to collect ALL bonusses, because it also speeds
up the re-appearance of the higher-value bonusses.
Please note that should one of the players die, the bonus sequence resets
and thus starts producing lower-value bonusses again. So don't die, and
you can work your way to the high-value bonusses!
Also, the bonusses appear randomly in one of n places on every
screen, where n is either 1,2,3, or 4. So I've you've seen bonusses
appear in four places on a certain screen, new bonusses wil always appear
at a place where you've already seen a bonus.
Reviving a player
When in two player mode, you can sometimes revive the player that has
just died when the other one still lives. Again, there's no random factor
involved, and it goes like this.
You can only revive yourself if:
- You have just died and the other player is still playing.
- The other player isn't on his last life, i.e. he still has at least
one life left after this one.
- You waggle the joystick (or keyboard ...) enough times left,right,left,right,...
Reviving diminishes your score with (..I think it was..) 20.000 points,
and grants you (only) one more life.
The system was created this way to allow lesser players to tag along
with better players, whilst representing this in the score. Also, the
system limits the progress by giving the revived player one life. That's
because when player A is revived, and does not collect another life after
player B dies, it's impossible to revive player B (inspect the revival
rules to see that this is so). That way the game is still difficult to
complete.
World 2-9
Many people had problems with world 2-9. The solution is actually
quite simple to explain but very difficult to do.
The problem is that it looks like you cannot reach the creatures on
top of the "box" (look right) in the middle of the screen. And you need
to kill those creatures to proceed. (Proceeding is somewhat easier with
two players.) First, jump into the box. Kill the green guy, but don't
kill the ghosts!! Wait until an opportunity arises, and then stun
a ghost about mid-way into the air. Catch your sword, jump onto the ghost
but make sure you keep the jump-button and the up-button pressed! If all
goes well, you should be clinging onto the ceiling with your sword. Wait
a little, swing on top of the box and finish the two guys.
If something goes wrong (and it often does!), you've still got the other
ghost to try it with. There is another tactic, which is: stun the ghost
(quite high up) and, without recollecting the sword, jump onto it and
jump straight onto the box. This is a really difficult tactic because
you'll have to avoid the two guys on top until your sword joins you!
World 6: in general
Tip of the day: if you keep getting killed by the lightning bolts you
probably don't understand what's causing them. The source of your troubles
are the blue flying things that home in on you. Once you've killed all
the blue thingies, the lightning stops.
World 6-5
World 6-5 also caused some problems for players. The problem is
that you don't seem to be able to kill the zombie on the top platform,
because there is (again) no way to get up.
Here, the solution is that there are black platforms, hidden by the
blackness of the tree. In the picture you can see here they're conveniently
coloured. In the game you usually jump whilst keeping "up" pressed. If
you then stumble into the black platform your knight automatically clings
to it.
